I love small animals, especially the dogs. I had my first dog when I was 14 years old. Even though he wasn’t so pretty, he was brave and smart. And he died after several months because of some kinds of disease. I felt so upset at that time. That was my first experience, and I didn’t even know take him to see doctor. Therefore, he passed away.
The second one was the one I loved most. I got her when she was only one month, she was so pretty of whole white hair and she was in a quite small size. I loved her so much. I played with her, took a shower for her everyday, and slept with her every night. That was a really pleasure time. However, things always doesn’t go smoothly as we thought, someone just stolen her one day. I tried to find her, but nothing happened. Since then, I didn’t getting any dog.
I still want to have another dog as soon as possible. I have two hamsters right now. They are so cute and clever. They designed their nest even I had prepared a very nice one for them; most of the daytime, they sleep, and they exercise at the night. They are getting well when they need to sleep together, but they are fighting when I feed them. I enjoy the moment when I talk to them, they just look at me and seem they try to listen and understand what I talked about.
I love small animals. They have the same natural life as human beings do. Therefore, we should be nice to them.
As we know, a lot of countries are focus on their human rights, meanwhile, does all of those countries concern about animal rights? The answer is absolutely not. When people are curious about their own freedom, do they think about the animals? Keeping animals in the animal museum is good or not, people debate about it. Some people probably say that it is safe both for the animals and human beings. But how about the freedom of the animals? That is a small aspects of animal rights. Furthermore, what do you think about animal experiments? Is it fair to the animals? A lot of countries use animals to do the experiments in nowadays. Some people agree, yet some people reject. Therefore, I think animal experiment will be a good controversial topic.
Halloween, the dictionary interpreted as “The eve of All Saints’ Day”, the Chinese translation:”Halloween Night.” It is one of the oldest celebrations in the Western countries. At the early of this month, many supermarkets were promoting a lots of relevant stuff, which they normally use in this festival. People will wear the marvelous clothes, and they normally just put the Jack O’ Lanterns at the front of their house or hang them on the windows. It is the great joy time for children. Because they think Halloween is amazing, and they can make up in different ways and get many candies from different families. It is really interesting to me, too.
Halloween reminds me of the “Ghost Month” in China. It is also named as “Yu Lan Festival“. The lunar 15th July is the day of opening “Gate of hell”. It is similar meaning to the saying of Halloween. But we celebrate in different ways. There are Lantern Fairs, fireworks and carnivals. Most of children and young people like to put the lanterns which are made of paper in the river. And they make wishes while the lanterns are floating away. This is the happy memory of my childhood.
When I was a kid, my childhood was so wonderful because of so many different festivals in China; however, nowadays, there are more and more culture dying out. We all know that the whole world are developing. New things come and replace the old things. But I would like to say that there are somethings can not being discarded, especially the culture.
Funny topic, isn’t it? I still remembered that I always thought about this topic when I was a small kid. I cried several times because I always imaged that all my relatives were becoming old and passing by. And then I was alone in the entire world. It was so sad. I am really afraid of experiencing this kind of event.
China has a very venerable culture and history. I affected deeply by this tradition. So I love small kids and respect the old. Piety is one of the most important tradition in China. Parents raise the children, and the children take care of them when they are becoming old. Although there are some persons changing their attitude nowadays. Piety still inherits generation by generation in China.
As we know, United States is the place where people have the most freedom in the world. So I am so curious about the cultural of United States. Therefore, I chose to come and study in United States. I stayed here in Mount Pleasant for a little bit while, and I found that the old persons here had so different life. Most of them live separately from their children. And I talked to some of them, they told me that they liked to live by themselves, they liked to do whatever they wanted, and they didn’t like to take care of their grandchildren. Moreover, some of them said they also felt lonely because their children lived far away from them, and the only chance for them to see their children and grandchildren were in a big and important occasional time. And some of disabilities have to stay in the center where a lot of old person who can not take care of themselves. That is quite different from my country, China. I don’t criticize what do they do here in United States because I might not familiar with the cultural. But the point I want to make is the old persons should enjoy their late years with their children and grandchildren. In my opinion, most of the old persons are looking forward to have this kinds of late years, especially in China.
We should thank for parents to give us chance to come to this world. And it is their duty to raise us up until 18 years old even more than that. Then children are obligatory to take care of them when they are becoming old. That is my opinion. So what do you think?
A small and beautiful country—–Denmark
Denmark, which is one of the small Scandinavian countries where I had a savory memory.
I am sure that everyone know about Hans Christian Anderson, who is one of the most famous fairy tale writers. When I was a kid, I liked to read his fairy tale, such as The Real Princess, The Emperor’s New Suit, The Snow Queen and so on. Especially, I kept a deep mind of The Little Mermaid. That is why I chose to study in Denmark when I had the chance.
I went to Denmark in 2005 when was Anderson’s 200th birthday. I was so lucky to have quite a few chances to visit many museums and famous sights. For example, I visited the Denmark Palace; I watched the dress parade, and I photoed the most technical Denmark Design Center. The most exciting thing was I saw the Little Mermaid in person. It is a statue that sit on a big rock which is in the center of the island. The status isn’t so beautiful as I thought, but I still liked it so much. I read the fairy tale of The Little Mermaid; I watched the movie of The Little Mermaid; and I saw the real status right before me. I was so exciting at that moment.
The fairy tale is not only the reason I like Denmark, but also the Danish and the advanced equipment in public are all the causes. Firstly, the language of Danish is pretty difficult to pronounce. The funny thing is the way they say the number. Normally, in most of the countries, we say the number by its sequence; however, the Danish say the number oppositely, for example, the number 23, we say twenty-three in English, but in Danish, they will say the number”3″ first, then number”2″. Secondly, the Danish are very friendly. The official language in Denmark is Danish, but 95% of Danish can speak English very well. They can try all possible ways to help you when you have problem. At last, Danish is a very small country, but the people in Denmark are very united. And Denmark ranks as the ninth richest countries in the world. It has high welfare, high wage, and low employment. All the equipments they use in public are very advanced. Denmark is one of the countries where children, women and the old have been treated with high protection and respect ion. Friendly people, funny language and advanced equipment are all the factors to keep Denmark as a nice memory in my mind.
Well, I choose to come to study in United States after I graduate from the school in Denmark. I felt a little bit regret that I didn’t stay in there. But anyway, I like to travel all over the world, I like to know different cultures in different country. I will go and visit Denmark as soon as I have time to. I love Denmark. I miss the friends over there. I am eagring to see the little mermaid again.
Rising divorce rate
As we know, high divorce rate is popular exists in many western countries. But now the divorce rate is raising in Asian, especially in my country—–China. China has a very venerable tradition and culture. Divorce rarely happened in century years ago. There should be some causes of rising divorce rate. For one thing, the simple procedure of divorce is the main cause of rising divorce rate. Long time ago, people want to divorce, the whole process could take more than several month. But in nowadays, it can take only 25 minutes or less to get a divorce at a local department. For another thing, individuation results of marriage dissolution. People are becoming more and more egoistic. And they have many economic disputes. Therefore, their marriage couldn’t last as long as possible. Furthermore, the extra-marital affair is also the serious issue for people to getting divorce. The big and prosperous cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao are the typical examples. The divorce rate in those cities is obviously higher than the others. Divorce is one of the problem cannot be avoided while the country is developing. Therefore, the divorce rate is keep rising in every country.
Hi! I’m Liyun Wang, or you can call me Carol. I was born in Fujian, a big and beautiful provinces of China. After I graduated from Minjiang University in 2001, I worked in a small trading company. As an assistant of director at that time, my responsibilities ware to contact the customers, introduce our products to them, and arrange all the process of shipping. I have greatly improved my communication skill with foreigners at my first company. But it is still not enough. That why I decided to go and make an advanced study here in United States.
I’m a kinds of funny and quite pleasant, friendly girl. I like reading books like Da Vinci Code and detective novels, learning foreign language, and now I’m trying to learn Spanish because I think Spanish is becoming more and more popular in the future, but I only have little free time to learn it by myself, and it is difficult. I’m also a picky girl. Well, I like most of fruits. But I hate onion. The smell just makes me feel so terrible! And I don’t eat babycorn and green pepper either.
I like to make friends. I am so happy I have some friends from other countries. I can not only learn the different culture from their countries, but also I get the chance to improve my spoken English. In my spare time, I always go together with them, chatting, shopping, swimming, and discussing all kinds of food from different countries. I really enjoy the time with them.
Sounds interesting?? If so, come to me, we will know each other more deeply.
1.Describe in detail one piece of writing that you have done in English. It could be a class assignment, a letter, a story, etc. Tell me the process that you used in writing it; in other words, how did you go about the task? Then tell me what you enjoyed about it and what was difficult. Remember to explain why.
I would like to talk about my experience to write a email. I get used to send email to keep in touch with my friends instead of writing a letter on a piece of paper. When I start to write an email, first of all, I will consider who I want to write to, why I want to write to them and what is going on with him/her during the last time I contacted with them. It m.ight need couple of minutes. And then I decide how many paragraph I will write in this email, it usually depends on how many topics I
will talk about. So normally, I need say “hi” to my friendsat the beginning of the email. For the second paragraph,
I ask about their study and job, and talk something we haven’t finished in last email. And then the third paragraph
I tell them something about myself, such as, my study, my new friends , my new job and so on. At last, I always would like
to give them my greeting.
That is the way when I write an email to my friend. I like to share everything with my friend. And I always try my best
to help my friends. That is the really enjoy part for me. The difficult thing is sometime I get confused by myself,
Because I always write whatever when I just remember and the content wherever in the email. I think that is kinds
of coherence, which I don’t really good at. I would write lots of sentences that are not related to the main topic in the letter. That’s something I need to improve.
2. Do you enjoy writing in your native language? Why or why not? What do you write in your native language?
Yes, I enjoy writing in my native language. I have my ownblog, and I like to share some funny things happened aroundme with my friends. When I meet some frustration, I liketo write down some words and encourage myself. Writing is not only a way to communicate with friend, but also a goodmethod for you to tell the true feeling in your mind. That why I like to writing in my native language.
3. Have you ever kept a diary or journal? Explain.
Yes, I kept a diary when I was in high school. And I wrote it in English. I tried to write it when I was in middle school, bbecause I was so interesting in English. Then in order to improvemy English, I started to keep a English diary. It continued until I graduated from the college. And I also kept a journal during my college life.My family afforded my tuition fee, besides of that, all my living fees I had to earn by myself. That why I need a journal to make a record of everything. Then I found it was really good for you to control your pocket.
4. What do you feel is the most important thing you want to learn from this class?
Actually, I like reading. And there is no problem for me have conversation with foreigners. But when I start to write a article, I know the topic, but I am lack to use some specific examples to support my topic. I always write something depart from the main topic. I think that is the most important thing I want to learn from this class.
