Halloween

Halloween, the dictionary interpreted as “The eve of All Saints’ Day”, the Chinese translation:”Halloween Night.” It is one of the oldest celebrations in the Western countries. At the early of this month, many supermarkets were promoting a lots of relevant stuff, which they normally use in this festival. People will wear the marvelous clothes, and they normally just put the Jack O’ Lanterns at the front of their house or hang them on the windows. It is the great joy time for children. Because they think Halloween is amazing, and they can make up in different ways and get many candies from different families. It is really interesting to me, too.

Halloween reminds me of the “Ghost Month” in China. It is also named as “Yu Lan Festival“. The lunar 15th July is the day of opening “Gate of hell”. It is similar meaning to the saying of Halloween. But we celebrate in different ways.  There are Lantern Fairs, fireworks and carnivals. Most of children and young people like to put the lanterns which are made of paper in the river. And they make wishes while the lanterns are floating away. This is the happy memory of my childhood.

When I was a kid, my childhood was so wonderful because of so many different festivals in China; however, nowadays, there are more and more culture dying out. We all know that the whole world are developing. New things come and replace the old things. But I would like to say that there are somethings can not being discarded, especially the culture.

I really agree with your final comment. I was just thinking about Christmas. Stores are already advertising items for Christmas! It’s too early to do that, but now the holiday is all about spending money and consuming. The importance of the holiday seems to be lost in the rush to buy things.
